Summary
Statue Height 139.3 cm
Wooden, Yoseki-zukuri (joined wood-block sculpture), lacquered and gold-foiled.
It is considered to be the early style of Yoseki-zukuri (joined wood-block sculpture) because it is hollowed out deeply inside of the statue. However, the sculpture technique is not clear because it was coated thick and dark. The similar technique can be seen in Ichiji-kinrin in Chuson-ji and Yakushi-Nyorai in Kinryu-ji in Koromogawa, and all these are considered to have the same roots.
It can be observed the particular characteristic style of early Heian period, in carving style of facial feature, drapery and big lump of Nikukei (Usnisa).
Renovation works have been done several times late years, and it has the inscription of “September, 1714” on the pedestal and “ September, 1687” at the back.
