Summary
There has been a legend saying that a pair of golden cockerel and hen were buried at the peak by the third lord Hidehira in order to protect Hiraizumi, or another legend saying that it was an artificial hill created by using human-wave tactics for sediment transportation from Kitakami River. It is located about the midway between Chuson-ji Temple and Moutsu-ji Temple, and it is believed to symbolize the standard of urban planning of Hiraizumi.
Matsuo Basho, a famous poet in Edo era read, “ Only Kinkei-san remains its old (good) days ”, he might also have deep impression for this hill.
