It has a curled fernfrond ornament on the hilt. At the central ridge of the tang is covered with an openwork design, with a hole for hanging at the tip. This tang meant a handle itself, and is different from other swords which inserted into wooden handle grip.

A part of the sword body was sharpened, and shows particular phase. The pattern of the sword body is unclear.
It is the work of early Heian period, and a very unique and precious example, during the transition period of swords from the straight one to the curved one. It is said to be the possession of Akuro-O, one of a headman in Ezo.
