Casting (four tiers of casting work), two of shoza (bell hitting part) with lotus motif, 4 rows and 5 steps of Nyu (decorative protuberances on the bell),
Upper belt has a flowing clouds pattern, lower belt has a arabesque pattern with pearl motif, and 4 sections between them have casting work of inscription pattern.
The shape is vertically long.
The style of the bell is said to be inherited from the very classic style from the ancient to the one in the mid-Kamakura period, it can be observed through high position of Shoza(hitting part), and mutually-perpendicular position of the vertical line of Ryuzu(hanging hook on the top)and the Shoza.
The inscription recorded the history of Chuson-ji, established in 1105 and the big fire in 1337 etc.
It was manufactured by Fujiwara Sukenosin, a casting specialist, in July, 1343.
However,it is extremely regrettable that the Ryuzu(hanging head) is missing and the Shoza(hitting part) is worn out.
