Commentary
Served with Russian botanist Karl Johan Maksimovic who came to Hakodate in 1918, he helped his research as a plant harvesting assistant for almost three years before he returned to Japan in 1864. After that, they continued collecting tours in Japan, sent their pressed leaf specimens to Russia, and became a negative contributor to plant taxonomic development. Among the plants discovered by Naganosuke, there is also a plant named Koshonosuke. His specimens are currently stored at the Komarov Botanical Research Institute in Leningrad.
