Overview
Located on a hilly slope on the west coast of Ofunato Bay, the shell layer is 60 cm to 120 cm, and the relic inclusion layer extends over a relatively wide area.
Shell mound has been known for a long time and research has been carried out, but a large number of artifacts have been excavated in the excavation survey carried out in 1961.
According to the survey, late Jomon period and late Yayoi period, Yayoi style earthenware, 220 stone tools, over 110 bone cutlery, 2 human bones and 2 pediatric bones are excavated.
In addition, the burial bones of dogs excavated at this time are stored in the Ofunato City Museum.
It is valuable in a typical shell mound in the late Jomon period.
