Iwate's Castles and Palaces

There are many historical castles and palaces that still exist in Iwate Prefecture up to this day. Even just by identifying the area housing these historical sites, the number sums up to a thousand and several hundreds. Among these historical sites, the major castles and palaces that were involved in historical events and appear in literature are introduced.

The era of Emishi

  • Izawa Castle (Oshu City)
  • Shiha Castle (Kurajo, Morioka City)
  • Tokutan Castle (Tokutanjo, Yahatacho)

Mr. Abe's castle fence

  • Kitchen river fence (Kuriyagawa no fuku, Morioka city)
  • Igawakan (Komogawanouchi, Oshu City)
